Suppliers and Sustainability

From the fields of Sörmland to the royal table

Our supplier map is a tribute to those who make our hospitality possible. It features vegetable growers, charcutiers, dairies, breweries, and artisans who all contribute to the overall experience. We strive to work with local and regional suppliers as much as possible. By choosing ingredients from the surrounding area, we reduce the climate impact of transportation while supporting the local economy and preserving the living landscape.

Our menus are based on the season and what’s available, highlighting locally sourced ingredients such as game, fish, berries, mushrooms, and organic vegetables. This means that our offerings may vary over time—which we see as a strength and an opportunity to provide authentic and seasonal dining experiences. By working closely with producers and artisan food makers, we not only create sustainable meals but also foster a stronger connection between our guests and the local area. For us, sustainability is about long-term relationships and respect for both people and nature.

The map shows some of our suppliers in Sörmland with whom we work closely. They are an important part of our value chain and how we help create vibrant communities.

Svenska Kulturpärlor Sustainability at a Glance

Sustainability has always been a core principle for Svenska Kulturpärlor. What we do in practice

Cultural Heritage and Place Development

  • Building preservation is carried out using traditional craftsmanship, reused materials, and period-appropriate solutions.
  • We relocate and preserve entire buildings, and restore floors, windows, and interiors so they will last for generations.
  • Our destinations create vibrant communities, local jobs, and attractive year-round destinations.

Economic sustainability

  • A long-term, well-managed company that can take responsibility for cultural and historical assets.
  • Collaboration with local producers and suppliers, as well as a bank in Sörmland.
  • A business concept that enables investments in real estate, people, and communities.

Social sustainability

  • Secure working conditions through collective bargaining agreements, with a focus on workplace safety, training, and employee involvement.
  • Whistleblower policy, annual safety training, and efforts to promote equality and inclusion.
  • Involvement in the local community through local sponsorship, community organizations, summer jobs, and partnerships.

Environment and Environmental Sustainability

  • 100% green electricity, energy efficiency improvements, geothermal heating, and lake-source heating.
  • Active efforts to reduce waste, food waste, and water consumption.
  • Protection and management of biologically valuable environments around our Locations

Why is it important to share this?

We can confidently tell our guests and customers that:

  • A visit to Svenska Kulturpärlor preserve Sweden’s cultural heritage.
  • The guest's stay strengthens the local community and creates jobs.
  • The experience has been carefully designed from a social, environmental, and economic perspective.

Sustainability as a core concept

In 2023, Sweden celebrated 500 years, and this prompted Fredrik Åström, owner of Svenska Kulturpärlor, to ask himself an important question: What can Svenska Kulturpärlor , with Dufweholms Herrgård, Södertuna Slott and Gripsholms Värdshus , do to give our guests and visitors memorable royal experiences in cultural-historical environments close to the lake, even for the next 500 years?

At Svenska Kulturpärlor we are proud to be one of Sweden's leading groups in the HoReCa sector. We are committed to providing high quality and sustainable services within our companies, for our employees, and in the preservation of our cultural properties, buildings, inventories and collections.

Working with our guests, suppliers and products is equally important to us. Since our inception, we have worked with local artisans in everything from cultural heritage to beverages and produce. Our gardens and Swedish nature provide the raw materials that enrich our guests' experiences and promote good health and a rich life.

We believe in the power of partnerships and work with a number of schools, business associations, food clusters and tourism and industry organizations, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We are convinced that these collaborations contribute to building a sustainable business and better society.

Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and we constantly strive to reduce our climate impact, while maintaining good work ethics with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Our vision for sustainability is clear. We are proud of the progress we have made in the past years 2023 and 2024 and are determined to continue working to be a responsible role model for responsible and ethical behavior.

Our ambition is to be as durable as the artist's fence we erected in 2023 at Sweden's oldest inn dating from 1609, made of corten steel with a lifespan of 500 years. We want our decisions to lay the foundation for future generations to enjoy our gems.

CEO/Owner Fredrik Åström
